The Man Made of Stone
John Boegehold

He slipped away into the woods that night

When the winds blew cold and the moon was hiding

Along the trees aglow in fox-fire light

A path once clear now uninviting

All the miles and mountains crossed

The runes he tossed and followed

Hollow victories treasures lost

Was it worth the cost

He wondered on the run

A fragile truce had quickly come undone

He was on his own when his army scattered

The fog of battle blotted out the sun

Getting home alive was all that mattered

They called him the man made of stone

A forged arrow found him

Where he stood alone

The snow fell around him

This king with no throne

They called him the man made of stone

They called him the man made of stone

All through the land he was known

His harvest abandoned

With seeds left un-sown

His soldiers now slumber

In graves overgrown

They called him the man made of stone

Window to the World
John Boegehold & Diane Boothby

I’m no Edgar Allen Poe

I’m just an ordinary Joe

Waiting for the time to pass

On this side of the glass

At my window to the world

I’m no Michelangelo

But I can paint you a John Doe

Waiting for the world to wake

Watching every turn it takes

From my window to the world

I was a victim of the notion

An addict of the dream

I was a slave to the emotion

Chasing that which chases me

I stood on broken glass

I faced Jaberwock

I raced against time but

Could not beat the clock no no no

Like a specter amongst the things

He couldn’t touch

The man who knew too much

His conclusions drawn from evidence

A blow about the ears

Heartbreak in residence

The same address for years

Years and years same address for years

I may not be Cyrano

I just react to what I know

And all I know is what I see

Through my window to the world

Looking out of my window

What Awaits Me
John Boegehold

Sing me to your sacred ground

Sing me to the land I long to see

Finally free at last unbound

Call the angels down to carry me

I’ll be on my way

Solace for a simple man

Seeking words of wisdom to believe

Slowly I did understand

Now that my soul’s open to receive

I’ll be on my way

Up ahead I hear the sound

Rising rivers roiling as they wind

A bridge in flames no passage found

No road back to all I left behind

Face the flood

Stack the stones

Flesh and blood

What awaits me I don’t know

Down the generations past

Tales of those who braved the siren’s call

To the gods my fate’s now cast

Untied from the mast to risk it all

He Once Was
John Boegehold

I met a man in town today

Where he’s from he did not say

Told his story sad but true

He once was like me and you

Said he wished the truth away

On that autumn day

People came and gathered by the tracks

Some held signs some turned their backs

As the train he rode passed by

Bowed his head he knew the reason why

Morning songs the free birds sing

He yearned to hear them

Warnings dire the caged birds bring

He learned to fear them

Born to lead but bred to follow

Hollow rang the words that he belonged

White feathers clutched within his hand

As he walked alone along the strand

Women wearing red scarves knelt to pray

He didn’t know quite what to say

Fate was rarely fair or kind

To God’s poor souls who languish on the lines

I met a man in town today

Where he’s from he did not say

Told his story sad but true

He once was like me and you

A ragged book in jagged hands

His diary of a life unplanned

Held together with wire and glue

He once was like me and you

He went down to the water

With those who have fallen

Those who can’t stand on their own

In the arms of their brothers, sisters and mothers

They’re on their way home

Once a soldier battle worn

Bible bred now body torn

A living hell that he lived through

He once was like me and you

His voice grew soft his words did stray

He bid farewell then walked away

A restless soul with thoughts askew

He once was like me and you

Underneath The Orphan Moon
John Boegehold

In a dusty town down a dead end street

There's an overgrown house with a roof that leaks

Where the floorboards creaked down the quiet hall

On a winter's night when you left them all

All the times you cried and tried to tell them

Maybe now you're gone they might believe

Maybe now you're gone they'll never find you

But the old ghosts live on

To haunt the hollows of your soul

While you gather up the pieces

Of your heart to make it whole

As the life inside reminds you

You're growing up too soon

It's a slow dance with the devil

Underneath the orphan moon

As the fog rolls in and the train rolls out

A river of anger rushes through the doubt

Bringing back the strength you thought was gone

When you left the place the world went wrong

Woken by the dream where you keep falling

Hoping you can stay awake till dawn

Hoping you can stay awake forever

Clouds That Never Rain
John Boegehold & Diane Boothby

Moving over I feel the shadow chill

Taking light the bright light from my eyes

Seems we’ve been losing ground

And now it’s down to broken promises

Of love never ending like clouds that never rain

I believed all the stories told to me

About a world a world of make-believe

And now the words that soothed

Turned into truth that always seems to be

A darker story with clouds that never rain

Moving over

Clouds that never rain

Growing colder

Clouds that never rain

Thought I’d found hallowed ground

Drowning in my dreams

Moonlight-kissed

The dooming mist embracing me

Fading signs broken rhymes

Time is wasting me

The days all turn to dust and drift away

I will chase the storm

When fate is finding me

I will face the storm

Hearts entombed in amber finally breaking free

I’ll embrace the storm

Bittersweet the taste of destiny

Bulletproof
John Boegehold

Well, I’ve been up but mostly down

That’s just the way I’ve always been

Tripping landmines I can’t step around

Carried on the wind

I’ve never heard the call or seen the light

Ever spinning like a cog in the endless wheels of space and time

Still I’m doing fine

Cause I woke up on sunny day

The rain’s a million miles away

I’m gonna run down the halls

Rattle scream and shout

Gonna pound on the walls

Till the ghosts come out

Then I’ll climb to the roof

There I’ll stake my claim

Cause I’m bulletproof

Let the world take aim

I’ve looked within I’ve looked without

I’ve seen some things I can’t un-see

In travels here to there and all about

Treading waywardly

Once swept away then pulled back to the fight

Just a pattern-seeking animal caught up in God’s grand parade

But I made the grade

Cause I woke up on sunny day

The rain’s a million miles away

No one’s standing in my way

Somewhere North of Nowhere
John Boegehold

Set out on the path to find perfection

There I found oblivion instead

Riding out the rapture far too late to change direction

Forced to face the demons up ahead

Somewhere north of nowhere

Something’s watching me

Running hard and wishing I was elsewhere

Trying to find some shelter under siege

Stranded without wheel or wing wary of the bugbear

Biding time perched high up in the trees

Holed up stoned in a home slowly burning

No ammo in my gun

Sunrise shows that the enemy’s returning

The gathering’s begun

Clouds move in lines in an unnatural symmetry

Blood in my heart runs cold

They’re following the trail of a flock that is running free

Sheep that’ve left the fold

Tuning through the static for a voice on the radio

Hoping to hear some good news

Truth be told it’s a fate we already know

Just what we stand to lose

Clear were the warning signs nobody listened

Now no one’s left to fight

No telling how our story will be written

If anybody’s left to write

Summoned From Afar
John Boegehold

God’s reluctant hero

Left the shadows when a messenger appeared

Restless in her armor

War drums distant in her ears

Summoned from afar

See the burning steeples’ glow

Summoned from afar

Save the only world we know

Solemn rang the promise

She’d return to lead the hopeful from the hive

Destined for deliverance

Long the journey to survive

Summoned from afar

See the burning steeples’ glow

She raced to master space and time

And rule the moment

One last mountain to climb

Then home again

Welcome to the showdown, the throwdown

Welcome to the slowdown, the lowdown

She carved a path to the devil’s door

Then kicked it open

Finally settled the score

Then home again

Welcome to the showdown, the throwdown

Welcome to the slowdown, the lowdown

And as the stars aligned

She rolled away the stone to find

A world alive still spinning round and round

Love Is Still the Light
John Boegehold & Diane Boothby

After all is said and done

There's an ember still alive

And it burns as it burned

Through the wars we scarcely won

It’s a gift that we survived lessons learned

Here we stand on this broken land

And if piece by piece it falls away then

Here we’ll stand with our hearts in hand

Fighting hard to see that

Love is still the answer

Love is still the light

Was it more than meant to be

That we’re gathered here today

In this life hope remains

If with different eyes we see

It could never be denied what we've gained

We could turn away and say it’s over

But the fear of losing makes us hold on

Still the light that always shines

There Goes My Baby

John Boegehold

I heard her heels click ‘cross the floor

Then the sound of a slamming door

Found a note she could not take it anymore

I knew that there might come a day

Like the others she would walk away

I guess I wasted my last chance to make her stay

There goes my

There goes my

There goes my baby

I know why

I won’t lie

She thinks I’m crazy

But aliens from other planets walk among us every day

Camouflaged as human to avoid detection

Shades of Roswell gray

Birds are drones

Spies in the air

Tracking all our thoughts every step and keystroke

Cameras everywhere

Well I’m a skeptic born and bred

But with voices in my head

And they’re telling me beware the chemtrails spread

Elvis lives the earth is flat

NASA’s moon landing all an act

Kubrick filmed it on a soundstage that’s a fact

The CIA controls the course of wars and weather

A grand conspiracy

All of us are all pawns of the Illuminati

Told in ancient prophecy

The end is nigh

She doesn’t care that I can prove the theory of a second gunman
